New Beginnings

Christened in the spring of 2004, Nichols Village welcomed its very first residents. These courageous pioneers embarked on a new journey to live a more sustaining and rewarding lifestyle. With the burden of homeowner chores and responsibilities lifted, residents began redirecting their newfound time and energy toward activities they wanted to do, rather than activities they had to do.

No more housework, no more home repairs, and no more homeowner worries.

“Making a move when you are younger allows you to enjoy everything the

Nichols Village lifestyle has to offer.”

N. Woodburn Nichols

The Gift of Nichols Village

N. Woodburn Nichols, son of Norman Nichols and Jane C. (Renton) Nichols was born in Groveland, Massachusetts on December 19, 1859. During his youth, he met Clara Louise Hopkinson, also of Groveland, and the two were wed in 1885. After Mr. Nichols graduated from Groveland High School, he was employed as a clerk in a Haverhill retail clothier store. Then in 1892 he became a partner in Nichols & Morse, a men’s clothier located in Haverhill. Using his business savvy, Nichols became Vice President of the Haverhill National Bank, which is now the Bank of America.

On June 15, 1925, Mr. Nichols passed away in Haverhill and was laid to rest at Groveland's Riverview Cemetery alongside his beloved wife Clara. After his passing, The Trustees of his estate worked to fulfill Mr. Nichols' wish to build a community for “aged men and women” within the Groveland community he called home.

Initially, the senior living community was slated to be built on the land of the Nichols' family home on Garrison Street. Since this location was a densely developed residential area and too small to meet the requirements of a state-of-the-art senior living community another location was sought. Hence, the over 90 acres of woodlands and fields where the Nichols Village community now rests.
